Are schools overteaching phonics?

Mark Seidenberg pointing out that some schools are overdoing foundational skills instruction.

The Reading League essentially fearmongering that schools will drop phonics if we have this conversation.

That about sums it up. 

The answer, of course, is to actually talk in terms of recommended dosage, to take noise out of the conversation.
