Make money doing the work you believe in

“Last August, the Harvard Business Review published a story titled ‘Soft Skills Matter Now More Than Ever, According to New Research.’

As AI reshapes the workplace, the article says, skills like collaboration, mathematical thinking, and adaptability may matter more than specialized knowledge.

The authors write:

“Think of the NBA draft. Teams don’t always pick the top college scorers. Instead, they look for players with high potential—those with the right foundations like speed, agility, ball control, positional sense, and shooting form. These players may not shine on day one, but they often develop into stars because their foundation gives them room to grow.”

My favorite part of this article is how research has discovered that social skills helped workers achieve the highest levels of professional success.

“The more moving parts a firm has,” the authors say, “the more it relies on people who can align goals, share knowledge, and keep friction low.”

In other words, social skills like communication, empathy, conflict resolution, and the ability to coordinate diverse expertise are modern-day superpowers. They will be needed even more as the workplace becomes increasingly unpredictable and technical expertise quickly becomes irrelevant.

And since it’s harder to build these foundational skills later in life—especially skills like critical thinking and empathy, which develop over years through school, peer interaction, and mentorship—experts recommend cultivating soft skills from the start and building a workforce that can adapt to future disruptions.”
