A month ago, I did a call out for Substackers with small followings in the hope of diversifying my reading list. It blew UP, led to me connecting with so many amazing writers & resulted in tons of people connecting in the comments too. But now I want to do more…

I run a very new feature on my Substack called Artist in Residence & I want to use that as a platform for emerging Substackers. The first part would be a piece written by you (or an extract). The second part would be a little profile on you with some info about your process & journey (we’d work on this together). This call out is open to artists across all disciplines, not just writers - visual art, films, fashion, dance… anything really!

How to apply…

  • You must have a subscriber list of 500 or less at time of entry to qualify. This is about finding hidden gems & giving them the exposure they deserve.

  • To enter, simply head to my website (karlamariesweet.com) & use the online form - you’ll find it via the speech bubble in the bottom right hand corner. Don’t worry, I won’t ever add you to my subscriber list without your consent. My website automatically routes the messages I get there to my email account, which means they actually get read. Paste an extract of your piece directly into the form, share a link if it’s a piece already out in the world or link me to a google doc or dropbox. A few lines of info about yourself & your Substack will also be helpful.

  • I’m looking for pieces or extracts of around 1000 words max & there is no minimum word count (so poets & songwriters, feel free to apply!). PLEASE don't just send me a link to your Substack. Send me an actual piece of writing you'd like to have featured.

  • Look out for announcements via my Substack. This is an open, rolling call. I’ll be selecting 1-2 artists to platform every month & I’ll be adding honourable mentions to the Remarkable Reads section of my Sunday Best vertical too, so look out for that.

  • Restack previous issues of Artist in Residence. This is not at all mandatory but it is a nice way to support your fellow artists &, hopefully, others will do the same for you one day ☺️.

  • Share this note far & wide. Again, this isn’t mandatory but I’d love to build a network of emerging Substackers & the more we shine a light, the more of them will be found.

Can’t wait to read/watch/listen to/witness your incredible work💥💚.
