Make money doing the work you believe in

Last year, I made a leap from 6 years at Miro into the UNKNOWN. That led me to my 1st year in Solopreneurship. Today, I want to share 13 lessons I learned ↓

To be honest, calling myself a “solopreneur” doesn’t quite capture what I do now. I’m an advisor, creator, podcast host, and educator, and each of these roles fills a part of me that I didn’t even know was missing — so I combine them all as a Founder of Growthmates.

I decided to share the story behind my decision, what I’ve learned in the past year, and how I see this path unfolding in the future.

Here are 13 lessons as a month-by-month reflection of my last year:

[1] Don’t get too relaxed after getting your first client

[2] Turn on “consistency + commitment” mode earlier

[3] Balance boundaries with flexibility

[4] Strengthen personal positioning and invest in your content first

[5] Set more realistic “roof shot“ vs “moon shot“ goals

[13] Turn most joyful activities into new revenue streams

I truly hope that my reflection can help some of you navigate your pivotal career moments.

As Thanksgiving is coming, I’d like to express my gratitude to 12 more advisors and creators who kept inspiring my journey in my first year:

David Hoang — for connecting to many talented folks in the community.

Tom Scott — for checking in, connecting with people, and always being a support.

Viktoria Kharlamova — for being a creative partner on the course and a supportive friend.

Aakash Gupta — for setting a high bar of content and co-creating an article that was deeply important to me.

Maja Voje — for tons of energy and “useful pings” that your content gives.

Elena Verna — for overall making “solopreneur” a desirable path and saying “yes” to me on something we’ll share very soon.

Andrew Capland — for authentic content and always friendly vibe.

Lena Kul — for involving me in new endeavors for the design community.

Ramli "RJ" John — for our ongoing supportive partnership.

Kyle Poyar — for setting up the highest quality bar for content.
