It is usually about me, but that’s fundamentally different. There is a layer of constitution, of craft. I get that not everyone understands that as intuitively as I do. We life-writers offer a slanted kind of intimacy, a glimpse through the curtain of real life. It makes contact, but it also draws away, and it does that by necessity.”
