One of my fun side quests for “You Deserve Flowers” this year is simply to search “flowers” on Substack and see what I find. This week it was a beautiful reflection by Ariel Kaye, which also contains this gem from Christian Dior: “A passion for flowers inherited from my mother meant that I was at my happiest among plants and flowerbeds. My chief delight was to learn by heart the names and descriptions of flowers in the coloured catalogues of the firm of Vilmorin and Andrieux.”
I rarely have fresh flowers in my house, except for teeny ones I pick up on my walks or runs and put in a small vase in front of my dad’s photo. However, Ariel has got me thinking that maybe these extraordinarily challenging times call for more flowers.
