It’s true the form has evolved and become much more fluid since those early anthologies, but it’s neither true nor fair to say that flash fiction is full of “gimmicks” and that is all flash editors want to publish right now. Though many litmags favor the experimental, it’s safe to say all editors love powerful, beautifully written and resonant flash fiction, no matter the approach.
