🚨Kentucky Rep. Thomas Massie lost his Republican House primary on Tuesday after President Donald Trump backed challenger Ed Gallrein in an effort to unseat him.

The result highlights Trump’s continued grip on GOP voters and his growing success in backing primary challengers against Republicans who’ve broken with him in his second term.

Massie, in Congress since 2012, drew Trump’s opposition over his push to release the Jeffrey Epstein files, criticism of U.S. strikes in Iran, and his vote against Trump’s signature tax bill. He argued voters could support both him and Trump.

Gallrein, a former Navy SEAL, campaigned on his military record and loyalty to the president, accusing Massie of turning on Trump and the GOP. Trump traveled to Kentucky in March to boost him.

The race was the most expensive U.S. House primary in history.
