This morning I got an email from semrush that one of my sites had gone down in ranking.

I’ve been so consistent working on this site for the last few weeks and seeing that subject line felt a little deflating.

I thought damn, the SEO game must be different now, maybe I’m not good at this anymore. And I decided to skip writing and posting this weeks article.

But a few hours later, curious, I decided to go and check my analytics to see how the site was actually performing.

Organic traffic doubled in the last week.

Yes the numbers are low, so that sounds more impressive than it actually is. But the metrics are actually moving in the right direction.

When I opened the semrush email I realised the ranking they were talking about was a) not one I’m actively trying for and b) it had gone down 1 spot according to their data. But it’s still sitting in the top spot when I search.

Glad I dug a little deeper and didn’t take that email at face value.

Time to go write this week’s article and keep the momentum going.
