A Look Back at the Year 2024

Hello, and thank you for taking the time to read this post! My name is Keiko Asao, and I am the founder and president of Kappa Medical K.K. As 2024 draws to a close, I would like to reflect on our journey since the company was established on May 2 of this year. Kappa Medical K.K. is a new company that provides consulting services related to healthcare-related real-world data (RWD) and epidemiology in Japan.

We want to express our sincere gratitude to clients who approached us soon after the company's establishment, and we were able to start our practice early. Through the consultations requested by our clients, we learned about various issues and interesting initiatives in utilizing RWD that we had not been aware of before.

In parallel, I had more opportunities than usual to participate in academic conference activities and write articles, etc.

August: Presented a poster at the International Society for Pharmacoepidemiology (ISPE) annual meeting in Berlin

September: Delivered a talk on "Trends in drug approval applications using RWD overseas" at the ARO (Academic Research Organization) Council in Kobe

October: Presented a poster at the Asian Conference on Pharmacoepidemiology (ACPE) in Tokyo

November: Delivered a talk on "Federated Analysis in the OHDSI Community—Examples from Overseas" at a workshop during the Japan Association for Medical Informatics Annual Meeting

December: Participated in a panel discussion during the OHDSI APAC Symposium in Singapore

Through these experiences, I had the opportunity to hear directly from the people involved, and I was able to deepen my thoughts on our company’s roles while sensing new trends related to the utilization of RWD.

Although we are a small organization, we have made progress in building the company's foundation. With the addition of our first employee this November, we are entering a period of transition from a one-person company, which is a fascinating time for us.

We believe in RWD's potential to improve health care, and we will continue to work hard in 2025 to do small but piquant quality work, like Prickly Ash, and to build a good organization. We look forward to your continued support and guidance.

2024年を振り返る

初めまして。株式会社カッパ・メディカルの創業者で代表取締役社長の浅尾啓子です。2024年が終わろうとしている今、今年の5月2日に会社を設立してからの歩みを振り返ってみたいと思います。株式会社カッパ・メディカルは、日本のヘルスケア関連のリアルワールドデータ（RWD）と疫学に関するコンサルティングを提供する新しい会社です。

創業後、比較的早い時期に複数のクライアント様からお声がけいただき、早々に実務を開始することができたこと、心より感謝申し上げます。クライアント様からのご依頼のコンサルテーションを通じて、これまで気づいていなかったRWD利活用における様々な課題や興味深い取り組みを学ぶことができました。

並行して、学会活動や論文等の執筆でも例年以上に多くの機会を頂きました。

8月　国際薬剤疫学会（ベルリン）にてポスター発表

9月　ARO協議会（神戸）で「海外におけるRWDを活用した医薬品の承認申請の動向」に関してシンポジウムに登壇

10月　アジア薬剤疫学会（東京）にてポスター発表

11月　医療情報学連合大会ワークショップで「OHDSIコミュニティにおける連合分析―海外の事例の紹介―」に関して発表

12月　OHDSI APAC Symposium（シンガポール）、パネルディスカッションに登壇

これらを通じて、関係者の皆様から直接お話を伺う機会といただき、RWDの利活用に関する新しい動きを感じながら、弊社の役割について考えを深めることができました。

小さい組織ではありますが、会社の基盤作りも一定程度の進捗を得ることができました。本年11月には、第1号の社員が加わり、一人会社からの移行期に入り、気持ちの引き締まる思いです。

RWDがヘルスケアを改善する可能性を信じています。2025年も、山椒のように小さいながらピリリとする良質な仕事ができますよう、また、よい組織づくりに励んでまいります。引き続きご指導のほどどうぞよろしくお願いいたします。
