Update re: Megyn Kelly’s comments normalizing child rape and my letters to the SirriusXM board: I have no response from my letters yet, but I’m very confident there will be a response. Read on to see why I feel that way.
For starters, registered mail is slow and the holiday season slows it down further. So not surprised I’ve received no response.
The reason I targeted the Board of Directors is because they are an interesting species of corporate animal. They often are well-fixed financially, they may even be so-called ‘professional’ board members, sitting on a number of other organizations’ boards. Board members like to come to board meetings in big cities, all expenses paid for a few days and then pick up their fat check for nothing more than showing up.
Most board members find it immensely annoying if they have to deal with much more than rubber-stamping a few corporate issues and absolutely loathe controversy and conflict. Another thing they like to do is pass the buck to the CEO, President and the nearest Executive VP they can find, putting pressure on corporate officers to get this ‘annoyance’ out of their hair.
Phase II of this campaign involves research into the individual board members themselves. Where do they live and/or work and what other boards do they sit on—especially what other organizations’ boards do they sit on. Why? Because you then send letters to the members of the other boards and ask them, did you hear about the huge controversy brewing over the non-action of the other board you’re board-mates sit on? Then you’re layering the annoyance, the board members of the other organizations start wondering if their little board picnic is going to be tainted by their board-mate from Sirrius, who seemingly isn’t dealing with this incredibly shameful and embarrassing issue.
This is a legitimate ploy I’ve used very successfully with other large organizations, probably the biggest being AT&T, Hilton Hotels and Nordstrom’s. I hit a nerve so bad with Nordstrom’s board, their CEO called me personally on a Sunday afternoon to let me know he was on it, and indeed he was.
I suggest you all investigate these tactics and if so inclined, pull the trigger. All it will cost you is a little time and a few postage stamps.
