Early results from this Georgia election are pretty shocking. With about 58% of the votes counted a Democrat leads the field of 15 candidates.
Democrat Shawn Harris leads having won about 40% of the votes cast so far. The closest Republican, Trump endorsed Clay Fuller, has 34%.
Perhaps the biggest shock is in Whitfield County where Harris leads by a slim majority 50.5% over Fuller's 26.4%. In 2024 Trump won that county 72 to 27 percent. If that holds that is an incredible 69 point swing. The county's 36% hispanic voters seem to be switching their votes, along with others.
The most likely result is that Harris and Fuller will have that runoff election on April 7. If the Republicans can't get their voters who voted for other candidates to turnout, they could actually lose this.
