This piece is well worth reading. Among other things, he’s making a point similar to Orwell, who observed that “the slovenliness of our language makes it easier for us to have foolish thoughts.” The author of this piece highlights the fact that we use anthropomorphic language as a metaphor for understanding AI, after which we reimport that same language as a vehicle to describe the human mind as computational. We describe machines as human so that we can redefine ourselves as machines.
