If you recall yesterday’s story of the canceling of The Prom at Hamshire High School by district administration, I’d like to also direct you to last night’s board meeting. I watched the entire public comment and found myself sobbing several times.

Start at minute 30 and listen to every single one of the 23 speakers. Two are not speaking on the topic–they are mostly inoffensive and had no idea this was going on. But you’ll start with a knockout talk and end with one, too.

One of the administrators who canceled the show speaks just before the crowd, if you want her spin on it (you don’t need it).

Every kid needs to see their community come out like this, especially those marginalized kids who don’t get hear the love and support of the adults around them, not related to them, who may never meet them personally. That this isn’t the standard for board meetings anymore, that this isn’t the standard for LGBTQ+ kids or Brown kids or Black kids or disabled kids, is a shame.
