How about this? Plumbing is a field where you can’t fake being good. If you can actually fix leaks, unclog drains, show up when needed, do what needs to be done, word gets around. Good car mechanics are in the same category. In certain fields real competence is rewarded. We have so many bullshit jobs, where the ability to BS is rewarded, but there are still some fields where real world skills matter.
