In the Second World War, another 45,000 Canadians died liberating this continent from fascism. Canadian soldiers fought on the beaches of Normandy. They liberated France. They pushed through Belgium. They freed the Netherlands — a bond so deep that the Dutch still celebrate Liberation Day every May 5th by covering the graves of Canadian soldiers with flowers. Every year. For eighty years.
