Back when I was drinking, I had a giant vase in my living room that I would toss wine corks into after finishing a bottle of wine. Over the years, the vase filled up twice and I gave the first batch to a friend who was making cork art projects. The second batch filled the vase up and then… I quit drinking. I bagged the corks up and they sat in the bag in the garage because my friend who made things with them had moved away. I tried giving them to other people, but still they sat there. Recently, I signed up for Ridwell and they occasionally take corks for recycling so today I bagged them up and they'll get taken away tomorrow. Despite being sober, I looked at the corks with a level of sentiment, knowing that there were many, many... MANY... bottles of wine remembered here. Some great dinner parties. Some good backyard parties. Some good people. There's a lot of vineyards represented. Good ones that I had a wonderful time visiting. I'm a little sad to see them go but I'm a different person now and it's time to move on.
