HA! I can relate to your comment here about wanting increased responsibility at work.
That being said, one thing I think is often overlooked is that more senior roles typically involve different skills, ie; strategy, people management, reviewing work/performance and general culture setting. The higher up, typically the less you're required to do the grunt work (though I appreciate some people find people management, for example, to be a slog!).
I think the above skills actually align well with motherhood, because you're kind of using those muscles a lot in your role as a mother – compared to say, spreadsheets or coding or design work.
As always, this is so thoughtful. And it’s actually quite timely - just today, I received an announcement of someone who is currently on maternity leave and has been promoted to a senior director role when she returns later this month. It certainly doesn’t undo the systemic challenges that you’ve outlined here, but it’s a step in the rig…
