The news is scary, and yet I realised the other day that my daughter has never seen a newspaper. Is that good or bad? Am I being unnecessarily nostalgic in the symbolism of newspapers spread out over a table? Did newspapers make the world slower? Or was our attention just better managed? Energy feeds energy. Do world events create a hunger to consume, or does the hunger to consume create world events?
