Automated conscription, as described in the 2024 NDAA, would create severe demographic disparities in who bears the burden of military service:

Legal documentation would determine draft eligibility, meaning citizens and documented residents would be easily conscripted while undocumented immigrants remain unaffected. Unlike Vietnam-era draft avoidance, which required active measures like fleeing to Canada, this system automatically exempts those outside official records.

The burden would fall most heavily on working-class documented males, with multiple shields available to the privileged:

- College enrollment (primarily benefiting Democratic Party constituents)

- Claimed female gender identity (requiring resources and system knowledge)

- Higher education credentials (mapping onto existing partisan divides)

Current trends suggest less organized resistance than Vietnam:

- Decreased political engagement

- Young men distracted by entertainment

- Reduced media coverage

- Normalized political tensions

The result: a conscription system that could be implemented with less immediate social upheaval but deeper long-term damage - automatically drafting the documented working class while leaving multiple demographic groups effectively exempt. This would transform current cultural and political divisions into direct matters of life and death for millions of families.
