Not going back and re-exploring 2009 the way I did w/ 2003 since not only don't I have the impetus of a poll of yours or of the People's Pop Poll massive to aid in the exploration, I'm also woefully backed-up on 2024. But still, reprinting my old P&J singles ballot won't do. Not just 'cause I've changed my mind a bit, but because KOREA!!!!!
In 2009 I'd heard Wonder Girls' "Nobody" from 2008, and Girls' Generation "Gee." That was it! Then in 2010 E.via and After School and 2NE1 blew in and grabbed me, and the blowback got me 2009 as well. So here we are. In the USA, the rhythms of Gaga and Black Eyed Peas heralded an exciting blend of Eurobeats and R&B and hip-hop. It never fulfilled its promise. But Korea already had a bigger and brighter amalgam.
