Anything can always happen, but seeing as how literally all prior reports about Xi's supposedly weakened position and speculation about a PLA coup never panned out, I don't take the latest ones all that seriously.
There's nothing new about them that's disabused me of my belief that Xi is still the most important decisionmaker in China and that the PLA isn't plotting to depose him through one means or another.
I do believe that there are some CPC and perhaps even PLA factions that disagree with his foreign policy, but I don't assess them as having enough influence to remove him from power. I believe that they'd be purged, jailed, or even killed if they seriously tried that.
