This is not a precise definition, but it is an essential piece of philosophical vocabulary. Joe Sacks, informed by Heidegger, translated entelechy from Aristotle’s writings as a being-at-work-being-itself. It is one of Leibniz’s definitions of a monad, and it was coined by Aristotle to describe living organisms possessing the means of metabolism and reproduction.
