The app for independent voices

LinkedIn is (IMO) still the best distro channel for B2B newsletters. It’s helped me attract 81,000+ subs for Growth Unhinged.

My best advice for tapping into the algo:

1. Find 5-10 great thought leaders in your niche. Authentically engage with their posts, esp in the first hour.

You'd be surprised how helpful this is in the early days -- and how few people do it. Start here.

2. Original graphics go a LONG way. The best performers for me: original data/research, screenshots that have been marked up.

The takeaway: think infographic-style, even if it's not really an infographic. You want to draw folks in & let them come to their own conclusions. Sankey diagrams are always

3. Don't worry so much about putting a link in your post -- as long as you have a native graphic.

To be honest with you, about 60% of my posts now include links (I'm always pushing folks to Substack). If the post is a good one, it doesn't really matter.

4. Keep to a consistent schedule of ideally 2-3+ posts per week. Sunday mornings work best for me (have no idea why!).

But don't worry about trying to post every day. Who has that much new to say, anyway?

5. Find a counterintuitive perspective. What's nobody saying that you will go to your grave defending? What's your pet peeve that folks are still doing?

This doesn't need to be a hot take. Usually it isn't.

6. You can repurpose your greatest hits. Odds are most of your audience didn't see it the first time around.

I waited too long to do this. Now I try to refresh/repost on a ~6-12 month cadence & look for times when the post becomes topical again or for when I think of a better hook.

Hope this helps!
