I’d like to make my writing sound as far from AI as possible. Here’s how I’m trying do it (very open to other ideas):
1. Write stream of consciousness.
It’s Dublin circa 1914 over here (IYKYK).
2. Ban “It’s not X, it’s Y”.
It’s not personal, it’s AI slop.
3. Kill the em-dash.
Sorry — not sorry.
4. Avoid big vocabulary words.
The tapestry of human experience shall endure this affront.
5. Minimize copy-editing.
Readers are OK w/ a less Polish if the message is clear.
6. Keep it concise.
I don’t know about you, but I find AI generated slop reads like it was written by a high schooler trying to get their essay to clear the minimum page requirement.
7. Apply a consistent visual style.
The visuals take on more of the work and show that the newsletter took real time to produce.
8. Become less predictable.
You don’t know what to expect next. Look over there!
9. Find alternatives for AI tells.
Delve. Showcase. Underscore. Highlight. Adept. You get it.
