The most disruptive AI pricing (Apr '26 edition) ๐
I thought AI pricing would be somewhat settled by now. The rate of pricing changes only seems to be increasing:
- Salesforce went 'headless' making their MCP available to everyone (no seat required to use Salesforce!)
- ServiceNow says that 50% of new biz revenue comes from non-seat fees (seems to be mostly consumption pricing)
- Clay introduced dual-track platform + token pricing
- HubSpot introduced outcome-based pricing for their AI products (and undercut Fin's pricing by 50%)
- Anthropic lowered Enterprise seat prices for Claude while shifting much more aggressively to usage-based pricing
- SAP even announced a shift toward AI consumption pricing (!)
The general trend is moving away from charging for access to software (seats) and toward a model of charging for the work delivered by a combination of software and AI agents (usage, outcomes).
It's cool to see this trend accelerate, but can we please settle down for a minute?!?
