News from the front lines used to take time—all the longer we had to still believe our loved ones were still with us; all the longer to know if they were safe.

I used to love that life of waiting and not knowing. Hard to believe how much our lives have changed in the Information Age.

This week I realised that, these days, my emails mostly contain invitations and news from friends and relations and of course Substack notifications that draw me to writing that informs, entertains and sometimes provokes. What bliss!
