Shedding the skins of the past Year of the Wood Snake and running forth in the Year of the Fire Horse in many ways are largely about Legacy. It is a ritual shift from endings to beginnings.
As I read this brilliant interview by his daughter of James Lee , I found myself thinking about legacy quite a bit.
How will what we do here, while we are here, be remembered? Valued? Dismissed?
James’ work on his book about Federico Garcia Lorca bounces between a past and present, as does the plot itself, as does Lorca’s own life, as does the interview, as well, in passing the baton. Containers within containers. Nested dolls.
We live lives within lives. We may physically be in one place in one moment, but we never are in our spirit, hearts or heads.
There is so much more I could say about this interview—but I don’t have to. In reading it you will gain insights of your own.
