For The Art Couple Weekend we visit Liliana Lijn and Takis.

What? You don’t know who they are? You should.

Their relationship was a rare public embodiment of what artists often seek privately: Someone who challenges our ideas, mirrors our shadows and presses us toward thresholds we may not have dared cross alone. In essence, we seek a partner in crime to create a permission structure to break the rules of the very same permission structure.

This is why, most often, many Art Couple relationships do not have longevity.

There are very few photos of them together: Liliane Lijn (second from left) with Takis (far left) and friends in Paris, 1961 © Costas C. Chryssostalis
