Suppose someone says that a tree is intrinsically taller. That is, it has the property of being “taller,” independent of its height in relation to anything else, including both actual and hypothetical objections or any conceivable standard of height. It’s just taller simpliciter. If you ask which things it is taller then, the answer is that this is a confused question; that it’s just taller, full stop.
