In particular, I am curious if others think at what point (if any) either Philip or I were disrespectful, hostile, or unfriendly in this exchange. Was I any of these things prior to Philip’s last few remarks? What about this response here? Was Philip disrespectful, hostile, or unfriendly at any point?

I’m expecting some people to perceive me as having been hostile in advance. Let me reiterate: there is an important distinction between whether my style of writing seems or gives others the impression of hostility, and whether I in fact feel any hostility. Prior to this recent exchange, I don’t think I’ve ever felt hostility towards Philip. It’s unfortunate he’s perceived hostility in my remarks, but there’s not much I can do about that.
