I was taking a walk around my favorite village close to home and entered the local Alimentari, a lovely place frozen in time that still looks like it did in the ‘70s. The owner struck up conversation and we started chatting. I noticed this picture hanging and she told me that that was her husband’s grandmother, who opened the Alimentari way back when. I love these pictures because many of us have a similar picture of our grandmas: those specific clothes, trimming veggies on that specific white basin, on those specific threaded plastic chairs that came in several colors. It’s nostalgia, but it’s also the reminder of the good things we had in spite of all our problems: warm sun, evenings chatting in company that smelled of blooming four-o’-clocks, fresh produce, a sense of community, tight-knit family.
