This quote came in my email today from James Clear: "The world seems to be accustomed to delaying gratification less and less, which means the rewards of delaying gratification grow more and more." This is especially true for our kids. In the age of Amazon, Netflix, same-day shipping, etc. our kids (and us parents) have not been given the chance to reap the benefits of delayed gratification.
