I’ve long loved these posters that Barry Zaid did for the French ready-to-wear company Daniel Hechter in 1970, so it was a dream speaking with him for my podcast, Sighs and Whispers. Now based in Mexico, the 87-year-old self-taught Canadian artist spoke openly and honestly with me about the great successes and the great pains of his life, growing up gay in the 1950s, the scourge of AIDS, his influences, and how he cultivated his style.
