Beyond the Hayloft: When Spring Fever Hits the Roof

Clearing pine needles (and mental cobwebs) at the carriage house.

You’ve seen my desk before, but you haven’t seen the annex to my writing space. Living in the hayloft of a circa‑1865 carriage house means my “office” occasionally expands to include the roof, the gutters, and the tiny garden bed below.

Yesterday, an early case of Spring Fever struck. Armed with a leaf blower and garden shears, I traded my keyboard for the roofline and tackled a winter’s worth of pine needles like a woman possessed.

Naturally, every great undertaking requires a supervisor. Henry—our not‑so‑standard Standard Poodle—stationed himself on the stairs, monitoring my progress with the solemn intensity of a foreman who takes his job very seriously.

Do you have a furry “supervisor” who keeps you productive…or derails your workflow entirely?
