The Raven Who Photobombed My Scene

When an unexpected flash of obsidian wings appears in the manuscript.

Minding my own business, writing blinders securely in place, a character I didn't anticipate enters the scene:

"Through the glass slider of the main house at Pines & Quill, Mick watches a massive raven punch through the emerald canopy, its feathers catching a stray beam of Pacific Northwest sun like polished obsidian. It banks hard over the bluff, hitching a ride on a rising thermal and gliding toward Bellingham Bay with the kind of cocky, wings‑spread swagger that suggests it knows exactly where it stashed the bag of Niall’s homemade granola it swooped in and stole from the patio table yesterday morning—right as he was reading the paper."

Has a character or a critter ever photobombed your work-in-progress?
