Sean "Mick" McPherson is a man caught between two worlds: the brutal reality of crime and the quiet discipline of the soul.

After a career with the San Francisco Police Department ended in a haze of trauma and physical recovery, Mick sought refuge at Pines & Quill, his sister and brothers-in-law's zen-like writing retreat in Bellingham, WA. He arrived content to trade his service weapon for a tool belt, hoping the grounding work of a handyman would help him mend.

But you can’t simply switch off a detective’s mind.

Now operating as a Private Investigator, Mick has found his footing again, though the "Zen" of the retreat still colors his approach to the dark side of humanity. He isn’t a lone wolf, however; he’s backed by a powerhouse trifecta of expertise. Whether he’s digging through cold cases or chasing fresh leads, he’s flanked by his two best friends: Joe Bingham, a veteran Homicide Detective, and Rafferty, a Special Agent with the FBI. Together, they form a task force sanctioned by BPD and the FBI.
