I always planned to take the week off running after London Marathon. What I didn’t plan for was still averaging 8,007 steps a day.
Sunday was race day and Monday was a proper recovery day, back at my desk 9-5 then sofa in the evening. But Tuesday I was back out walking the dog, Friday I clocked up nearly 15,000 steps. That’s a lot of time on feet that had just run 26.2 miles.
I think this contributed to my recovery not going as smoothly as I’d hoped. I was resting from running but I wasn’t actually resting.
If you’ve just run a spring marathon, learn from my mistake. Rest actually means rest.
