This is Pastel de Nata, a traditional Portuguese dessert.
Fun fact: its origins trace back to the Jerónimos Monastery in Belém, where the pastries began being sold in the 1800s as a way to raise money during a difficult time. The original bakery in Belém is still open today and is a popular tourist spot.
Nowadays, you’ll see these everywhere. Locals love them with a morning coffee, but they’re also so good as dessert with a little vinho do Porto.
Pro tip: The best ones are from Manteigaria (pictured below), and you can find these shops all over the city.
