One of my students was struggling a little in our lesson because she had caught a cold.

Do you know this phrase: “to catch a cold”?

If you catch a cold, it means that you recently spent time with a sick person and they passed the virus to you. Maybe they sneezed or coughed near you!

Some people say, “Put your coat on before you go outside or you’ll catch a cold,” but this is not scientific!

A cold is caused by a virus. You can only catch a cold from another person with the virus, not from the weather.

English AND science today! 😁

You can also say “give somebody a cold”.

For example:

Don’t come too close. I don’t want to give you my cold!

or

I don’t want to give you my germs.

Germs = viruses and bacteria that make you sick.

Thanks for reading and stay healthy! 💙
