In my Women’s Conversation Club meeting yesterday, I was reminded of a very common confusion for English learners:

Is it “fell in love” or “felt in love”?

Try this quick quiz. Choose the correct word:

1. I will never fall / feel in love again!

2. They were very young when they met and felt / fell in love.

3. Have you ever fallen / felt in love?

Here are the answers.

First you need to know:

fall - fell - fallen

feel - felt - felt

…

We always use the first verb and not the second one so:

1. I will never FALL in love again!

2. They were very young when they met and FELL in love.

This is the one where so many English learners go wrong!

FELL in love. NOT felt in love.
