Ever seen an airplane that looks like a flying barrel?

This is the Stipa-Caproni, one of aviation’s strangest (and smartest) ideas in 1933.

The entire fuselage acted like a giant tube around the propeller… basically an early attempt at what we now call a jet engine concept. It didn’t go fast. It didn’t go far.

But it proved something powerful: shaping airflow matters more than raw power.

Sometimes the weirdest airplanes push aviation the furthest forward.
