Signs you've recalibrated your relationship with spending:
A bag of seasonal, organic fruit and veg excites the hell out of you
You find expensive restaurants less impressive than a really good homecooked meal
The flask of coffee and tin foil biscuit from home beats the £7 combo from the station
You take more pleasure from one gorgeous, handmade thing than several mediocre ones
You stop confusing price with quality
You walk down Oxford Street and realise the faint absurdity of the whole thing
People describe you as ‘low maintenance’ and you take it as a compliment
You realise just how much is made from plastic, even £100 ‘designer’ blouses
Buying food outside the house becomes an intentional event rather than what happens when you suddenly realise you’re hungry
Sales don’t excite you anymore; they just mean expensive tat is slightly cheaper
Enough starts feeling like plenty
You realise living frugally is a life skill that allows you to extract joy from the simplest things. People think frugality is eliminating pleasure when it’s in fact the whole mechanism by which pleasure actually works.
