There’s a popular idea among certain leftists that because the world has problems, you’re not allowed to be happy. This idea is reflected in statements like “How can you be happy while innocent people are being deported?” or “How can you be happy while children are starving in Gaza?”

This never made any sense to me. How would me being depressed help the situation? Would my tears prevent ICE agents from deporting people? Would my tears feed the children of Gaza?

If you never let yourself smile until all the world’s oppression is lifted, then you’re never going to smile. You should solve the problems that are in your power to solve, and try not to let the problems that you can’t solve bother you too much.

I yearn for a day when all the world’s problems are gone, and we can all live in peace and harmony. But until that day comes, I’m still gonna be stubbornly happy. 😀
