That’s actually the fascinating part. We sort of have to keep faith that smart people get rich and rich people must be smart, because if we admit the only surefire ticket to success is being born into a diamond mine owning family we are admitting our own chances for stellar success are slim.

It’s hard to accept that most of our success potential is determined by what family we’re born into, and only a tiny minority will transcend that predetermined trajectory, because a lot of our systems just aren’t made for class mobility.

But that’s a depressing thought so people avoid it.

Like how many people stop to wonder how many absolute geniuses from who knows what amazing areas of human endeavor have lived and died in cotton fields, sweat shops, restaurant kitchens, without ever even finding the thing they could have been outstanding at.
