I met a new friend on my walk today. A walk that almost always happens in my home state of Virginia, in the foot hills of the Shenandoah Mountains.
Today, that walk happened near Pensacola, Florida. It was in this much more humid and sandy terrain that I met this lovely being - Carolina Desert Chicory, or False Dandelion, they are called.
A gorgeous soft yellow flower that provides ecological benefits by attracting pollinators and contributing to biodiversity in grassland ecosystems.
According to my minimal research, its presence can enhance soil health and support various wildlife species…as well as elicit joy to those who take the time to stop and visit.
