April Poetry in the Field Challenge: Day 5

He is risen! After a rich and full day, I’m taking a few moments on the porch. We’ve had all the weather: snow, ice pellets, wind, freezing rain, rain. But it’s surprisingly calm now. A final strand of geese is gliding down from the sky, honking, and I can hear water dripping from eaves and pouring from the ditch into the river.

I have a hot cup of tea, a candle and poetry, of course. George Herbert and Malcolm Guite have been my companions this Holy Week, and I’m grateful for the front porch that has sheltered me these precipitous days!

The gathering dark is friendly tonight, because it, too, has been touched by the eternal Day. There is no fear here, only gratitude and lingering glory.

He is risen, indeed!
