Even though English is a Germanic language, it has borrowed so many words that now only 26% of English vocabulary is actually Germanic.

However, if you look at just the top 100 most frequently used words of English, nearly every one of them is of Germanic origin. The core of English vocabulary is still fundamentally Germanic.
