A principle too often disregarded in recent years in mainstream media on topics where it was thought that the public could not be entrusted with an impartial presentation of factual evidence, but had, instead, to be educated for the greater good.

It is one of the aspects of what Joseph Heath and Dan Williams have described as “highbrow misinformation”.
