There's an argument that Substack is just the latest version of what public writing has always been.
I published on Usenet in 1999. A blog from 2000 to 2009. Tumblr. Medium. Now here.
All of it timestamped. Most of it still accessible. None of it organized into anything useful until I fed it to an AI and asked it to characterize who wrote it.
The essay I published last week is also going into that archive. So is this note.
Future me—or future AI—will have opinions about what I was afraid of in 2025.
I'm trying to write things I wouldn't be embarrassed to have characterized.
